Trooping The Colour... On The Thames

Published by Thames Rockets 3953 days ago

We celebrated the Queen's official birthday in style this month, enjoying all the festivities from our beloved RIB boats. The Trooping the Colour ceremony is an annual parade which marks Her Majesty's birthday in true British style. The Queen greeted crowds from within a vintage carriage (the very same one used for King George V's coronation, and her own wedding!) as she travelled along The Mall.

This year's parade featured the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, who recently returned from service in Afghanistan, and ended with a 41-gun salute, fired by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery in Green Park. But no Royal occasion would be complete without a fly past - so without further adieu the Royal Family gathered on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the RAF flypast - and we don't think anyone got a better view than us!

As eyes turned skyward to catch a glimpse of the ultimate spectacle a host of aicraft, including a Lancaster bomber and Typhoon fighter roared overheard, closely followed by the much loved Red Arrows who trailed red, white and blue smoke across the sky. The river is the perfect place to enjoy the sights of London, and offers a unique vantage point from which to enjoy the cityscape in all its glory.
