Shrove Tuesday aka Pancake Day is here! Flipping amazing right? And although pancakes have become more mainstream in the UK we think it’s still a treat to have them midweek.
It’s great fun to make them at home with friends and family, topping them with fruit, chocolate, ice cream or syrup (or all of the above!). But if you’d rather let someone else do all the hard work we’ve selected, in no particular order, five of our favourite places to get the greatest of all flat-stacked-snacks in London town.
The Breakfast Club
Not just an awesome 80s movie! Now somewhat a London institution renowned for their queues of a Saturday and Sunday morning, as well as their amazing brunch menu, The Breakfast Club is the place to go if you’re craving a hit of classic American diner style pancakes.
My Old Dutch
They say good things come in three’s. Well ‘My Old Dutch‘ has locations in Holborn, Kensington and Chelsea. They boast that they’re London’s original pancake house and serve a range of sweet and savoury pancakes. Expect to find the classic combo of sugar and lemon, plus more quirky editions such as chilli con carne topped pancakes!
Don’t worry – you won’t be tucking in at the side of the road or in a lay-by! With sites in Exmouth Market (Angel), Kings Cross and now Bankside there’s a Caravan wherever you are in London.
Serving up pancakes 52 weeks of the year, these guys know how to make the perfect pancakes – stacked high, fluffy and topped off with plenty of syrup and delicious extras.
Jackson and Rye
Head into swinging Soho and you’ll find another site that just can’t keep these tasty treats off the menu! Jackson and Rye has a triple threat (or treat?) of pancakes on the menu for you to choose from. All made with buttermilk, topped with either caramelised banana’s, maple syrup + bacon or berries + cream fraiche. Stop instagramming and start eating!
Where the Pancakes Are
These guys are not messing around. Located in Flat Iron Square (an amazing collection of food vender’s, pop-up’s, bars and market stalls) Where the Pancakes Are have a creative range of sweet and savoury pancakes (big and small) and if you’re heading here for dinner they have a range of craft ciders to pair up with your choice.
If you’re feeling both hungry and competitive then check out this syrup soaked list of Pancake races in London here.
Alternatively grab your frying pans, a pancake or two and your friends and have your own pancake race – loser does the washing up! Guess where we’re going to have our race…
