The Great River Race, London's River Marathon, is a spectacular boat race that sees teams battle it out along a 21.6-mile stretch of the River Thames. This weekend's event is set to be another impressive day of racing, don't miss it!   Attracting over 330 crews from all over the globe, the race appeals to every level of competitor, from those who enjoy fun, fancy dress and charity stunts, to serious sportsmen and women who like to win.   It's a great fun day out for competitors and spectators alike, and although entries to the race are now closed, we'd definitely recommend taking up prime position at the edge of the river in preparation for this great day of entertainment. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKxKa8G6Ce0] If you're wondering where the best spots are to catch the action, we've got a few tips for you:   Westminster Bridge Tricky currents give crews, especially novices, a tough challenge as some fight to hold on to their handicap advantage in the approach to Westminster Bridge, while others try to weave their way through. The surrounding area is a great place to observe, it's here that the competition hots up.   Battersea Bridge Teams are approaching the halfway point here; the crews have now received maximum assistance from the incoming tide. The riverside promenades above and below the Bridge make excellent vantage points.   Hammersmith Bridge This area is tricky where currents are concerned, particularly around the Dove Pier. Tiring crews and coxes may struggle here, leaving room for others to take advantage.   Below Ham House, Richmond This year's race winner will cross the finish line below Ham House in Richmond, so it's easily the best spot to catch all the action. As the winner approaches the big finish there'll be a cannon broadside, rousing applause, and the prospect of receiving The Challenge Trophy of The Company of Watermen & Lightermen and becoming the UK Traditional Boat Champions.     From its debut in 1988, The Great River Race now has firmly established itself in the sporting calendar to such an extent that experienced crews describe it as a classic event - the one they all want to win.
